| What is the theme? |

"The Art of Parity", brought to you by the Saul and Dayee G. Haas Foundation whose
mission is to fund secondary school students in need through partnership with those
closest to the student: the teachers, counselors, coaches and staff at the student's
school.

Who is eligible?
- Washington State secondary students, division 1 for 6th-9th grade, and division 2 for 9th-12th grade. Grade 9 has the opportunity to enter in whichever division they feel most comfortable, but please choose only one division.
- Students enrolled in public or private schools.
- Students with verification from an art teacher or principal that their artwork is original, along with a parent permission form if under 18 years of age.
- For all work submitted, winning artists must be willing to donate their work to the Saul and Dayee G. Haas Foundation.
- Students in grades 6-12 who live in Washington State but attend an online school located out of state are still eligible to participate, as long as parent permission and school verification forms are completed.

| What kind of art is eligible? |

We are accepting 2 dimensional (all types, pen & ink, water color, oils, pastels, photography, etc.) and 3 dimensional (sculptures, pottery, jewelry, etc.) art. All two and three dimensional art, regardless of category or media is submitted initially as an electronic copy.

- Two Dimensional Art: Students can submit 2-d art in any media they choose. One image of the work will be submitted initially with a 300 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution. Viewing size of the digital image should be no larger than a standard 20 inch monitor screen.
- 2-d work should be scanned or digitally photographed.
- Three Dimensional Art: Initially, up to 3 different images of the 3-d piece can be submitted, each with a 300 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution. Viewing size of the digital image should be no larger than a standard 20 inch monitor screen.
- 3-d work will need to be digitally photographed.

| What are the art format requirements? |

All artwork must be unmatted and flat. There is a 10" x 13" maximum size limit. The image file should be no more than 800 pixels (longest side). Try to avoid sending tiny pictures because they often don't reflect the effort you put into them!

- File Type: .gif or .jpg (lower case)
- Color Space: RGB
- Resolution: 300 ppi (pixels per inch)
- Dimensions: 800 pixels (longest side)

If you need to reformat the digital image of your artwork, we suggest using http://www.irfanview.com. Irfanview is free downloadable software, but please don't download until you ask permission from your parent or school!

| What are the essay requirements? |
| |
|
Each entry must include a 200-500 word essay describing your artwork and explaining how the artwork relates to the theme "The Art of Parity" or the Haas Foundation's mission. Essays must be in standard Microsoft Word format with standard margins and font size. The file type must be .doc (lowercase).

| How is the art judged? |
| |
|
An entry will be judged not only on its creativity and originality, but also on whether it depicts the theme "The Art of Parity" or the Haas Foundation's mission.

| Who will judge the art? |
| |
|
The art will be voted on by a panel of statewide judges, including artists, educators and the statewide Art Steering Committee by mid February. The Haas Foundation will promptly notify winners of the results by email the first week in March.
