GUIDELINES and PURPOSES for the HAAS
FOUNDATION’S SECONDARY SCHOOL FUND

The basic purpose of the Haas School
Fund is to provide “timely” assistance
to individual students who have
established needs that must be
resolved in order to realize their
full potential in school. When Saul
Haas used the word “timely”, his
intent was to quickly and quietly take
care of the student’s need without the
usual red tape delays. An established
need refers to the inability or the
unwillingness of the student’s family
to meet the cost of the service being
provided to the student. Full
potential makes reference not only to
the student’s motivation to stay in
school, but also to reaching a
reasonable level of classroom
achievement and self realization.

A school’s Haas School Fund
coordinator must ensure that the fund
be used to assist only those
individual students who have an
established need and not be used to
subsidize the programmatic needs of
the school. To make the greatest use
of the fund for the greatest number of
students, we generally advise that
accumulated help during the school
year for an individual student be
limited to not more than $300.
Exceptions can be made to this
guideline by consulting the Foundation
office.

The following list of basic purposes
of the Saul Haas School Fund is by no
means exhaustive and schools are not
limited to these choices. However, if
schools have any questions about an
intended use, they should contact the
Foundation office.
