Proposal for Haas Educator Ambassador Program
(HEAP)
HEAP is a volunteer program, meant to advise and guide the direction of the Haas School Fund and assist in three areas:
- Assist Haas Foundation by increasing the visibility throughout the state.
- Help identify potential board members or donors.
- Create a statewide fundraiser on behalf of the Saul and Dayee G. Haas Foundation within a two year period, subject to the approval of the program committee of the Haas Foundation Board of Directors.
Statewide 18 people, from the 9 Educational Service Districts (ESD’s) geographic areas, both public and private secondary schools.
Authority of HEAP HEAP would serve as an advisory committee, under the direction of the Haas Foundation program committee. No more than 1 representative per school district.
Commission of HEAP Serve as advice and support for expansion of the Saul and Dayee G. Haas Foundation mission with an emphasis on statewide visibility. Areas that ambassadors may help in are: identifying leadership for the Haas Board and identifying potential donors or Adopt- a -School sponsors. Additional support for the foundation could be identifying additional schools that could benefit from the Haas Foundation. Lastly, Heap will create and implement a bi-annual statewide Saul and Dayee G. Haas Fundraising event. Additional examples of activities could include:
- Possibly have a meeting with the development committee to brainstorm a statewide event.
- Staff will solicit input from HEAP members for their suggestions on improvements
- Utilize the 5 P’s as a benchmark for marketing guidance, reviewing Price, Product, People, Place, etc.
- Look at printed materials, including the web site, brochure, and give constructive criticism, suggestions for improvements, and ideas about is it too little or too much, etc.
- Haas Staff will solicit input from HEAP members for their suggestions on other funding sources or opportunities for collaboration.
- HEAP members will be offered the opportunity to help identify grant funding opportunities.
- HEAP members may be asked to review a grant, go on a call to a potential donor or explore a potential partnership with Haas staff.
- Haas Staff will solicit input from committee members for their suggestions on improvements of the school fund program in order to improve the website efficiency.
Staff Role
- Attend Committee meeting, 100% of the time.
- Present reports to committee and HEAP as requested
- Agenda out two weeks prior to committee meeting
- Take minutes and mail no later than one week after committee meeting (using TDA format: Topic, discussion, action format.)
- Copies go to HEAP members, Program Committee members, key staff and board President.
- Review agenda with chair of HEAP
- Maintain computerized mailing list for committees
- Order name tags for each member
- Help recruit candidates for vacancies, as they arise. Executive Director with Program Committee chair selects chair and vice chair for HEAP for two year terms.
HEAP Make-up
Seeking teachers, counselors, principals, superintendents, secretaries, etc who are passionate about the impact of the Haas Foundation.
Assumptions
- HEAP would meet a minimum of twice a year: in Seattle in May and October (aligning with the annual and spring all board meetings. In addition HEAP members will explore a blog to meet online, as well as explore conference calling as needed.
- Haas would seek funding to support a quality HEAP, with either a mileage/travel pool or stipend.
- Each October would be training for new members, prior to the annual meeting for the Haas Foundation.
- Terms last two years, however start up positions will be one and two year commitments.
- Selection by the Staff and or Program committee chair and members.
