Executive Director's Corner
First I want to "thank you" for your time. By time, I mean: "Time" attending the orientation meeting or reviewing the PowerPoint presenta-tion; “Time” identifying young people who need our support; and “Time” filling out the year-end report. Speak-ing of year-end reports, your stories are terrific and very important. Thank you for your leadership, dedication and "time"!
In traveling around the state and meeting the majority of you, I was left with a sense of pride. The epiphany I had is that the Saul and Dayee G. Haas Foundation is an equalizing resource. Young people who need support can receive help in a timely man-ner. Stories throughout the state had one similarity-an unmet need was identified and somehow each learning community referred the need to you and “you” allocated the funds, making the connection happen. The Saul and Dayee Haas Foundation is not about charity, but about parity. Instead of students self-selecting out (of school, sports, music, etc.) the Haas Funds are immediately distributed to support the young person.
It is this simplicity that is magical. The Haas Foundation is the catalyst which we hope will inspire each school to set up a fund, get involved with our offer to match the funds (we match up to 1/2 of the original grant award) and go beyond this by adding additional funds of your own, to truly meet the needs of each child. By now our web-site for the public (and you!) has been revamped. Please take a few minutes to explore the changes on the public site, some of which include the ability to donate directly to the Saul and Dayee G. Haas Foundation.
We hope you will link us to your school site and share your passion with others, about the local impact of the Haas Foundation. If you know of people willing to volunteer or to become donors, please refer them to our website or to me personally.

New "scorecard"
When you receive your Haas Foundation envelopes in the mail in a week or so, please look at the information that is included in your organization’s scorecard. This scorecard does not affect your funding level this year, but will definitely be a factor in next year’s grant. It is our hope that the scorecard will help each of you understand why/how we increase or decrease funding levels. Collaborating with each of you is a rewarding experience. I look forward to a terrific year and to serving you as your Executive Director and Chief Storyteller. Please let me know how we can support your efforts, and again, thanks for your time and dedication.
