Thank you for working with us to help young people at critical times in their lives.

 New Location!
 911 8th Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98109

Haas Outside From the street, our new office looks like a funky entrance to a warehouse. But inside it is light and bright and large enough for our staff and volunteers to really spread out and get some work done. As a bonus, there is plenty of free parking on the street right outside.

A local high school student will soon paint Seattle scenes on the white walls and a Haas Foundation sign for the outside of the building.

Our office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

If you'd like to come by please telephone first, as we are a small staff and may be out doing board or committee work.

Our telephone number is 206-352-1199.

Become a Better Steward of your Haas Grant
 Coordinator Training Classes

pencils A coordinator training class is required of all Haas school fund coordinators. This is a one-time class, not an annual requirement. If you are a new school fund coordinator, or a returning coordinator who feels the need for a refresher class, please sign up for one of the following free sessions with Sue Russell.

The class covers:
  • Guidelines on fund administration
  • Using the Website for interim and year-end reporting
  • The scorecard system
  • The matching grant program

Rebecca Kelley from the Sonics & Storm shares strategies for raising money toward a matching grant. We also take time to answer your questions.

At the end of each class there is a drawing for a lucky school to win an extra $110 for their Haas School Fund.

Please contact Sue Russell at 206-352-1199 or staff@haasfoundation.org to sign up for one of these spring classes:

If it is just not feasible for you to attend a live class, you can fulfill the requirement by viewing the PowerPoint tutorial from the extranet (password secured) section of the Haas Website.

2nd Annual 'Give Secondary Students a Chance!' Campaign
More than Half-way to Our Goal

The second annual campaign is well underway, with help from the following people who have raised over $1,000 from friends, family and acquaintances (as of January 23): Dan Barritt, Roger Percy, Jon Bowman, Ruth Gerberding, Tom Gleason, Frances Lesourd, Michele Fugiel, Jerry Jenkins, Emory Bundy and Bonnie Hilory. They have earned the coveted Haas Foundation logo polo shirt.

If you would like to help raise money for students (and proudly wear the Haas polo shirt if you raise over $1,000), please contact Melissa Wenze, our development coordinator from the VISTA program. She can be reached at 206-352-1199, or by email at development@haasfoundation.org.

Secondary students from around the state are submitting original artwork to the Foundation which is being turned into plaques to be given as thank you gifts to donors who give $250 or more.

Just as important as the money being raised for schools is the growing awareness about our impact. With each annual campaign, more people are learning how the Haas Foundation serves the immediate needs of young people across the state.

 Amplify your Personal Impact
 Haas Educator Ambassador Program (HEAP)

Heap Members Heath Tayon, Mt Vernon HS and Richard Jones, Prairie HS Are you looking for a way to have a greater impact in the education community? Please consider joining the Haas Educator Ambassador Program (HEAP). HEAP members serve as an advisory committee, providing advice and support for expansion of the Haas Foundation mission with an emphasis on statewide visibility.

Some areas that ambassadors may help in are identifying leadership for the Haas Board, identifying potential donors or Adopt-a-School sponsors, and identifying additional schools that could benefit from the Haas Foundation. HEAP will also create and implement a bi-annual statewide Saul and Dayee G. Haas Fundraising event.

Easy Money for the Matching Fund

The Goodsearch.com Internet search tool shares its advertising revenue with charities and schools. The site is powered by Yahoo! and each time you use it a donation is made to the organization of your choice.

To use Goodsearch to benefit the Haas Foundation general matching fund, go to www.goodsearch.com, type Haas Foundation into the I support box and click Verify.

Or sign your school up to benefit directly from GoodSearch. Then employ the search engine on your school’s computers and ask your teachers, students and community supporters to use GoodSearch for their Internet searches. When your check arrives from GoodSearch, deposit it in your Haas School Fund and record it on our website as money raised toward a matching grant. We will then send you a matching grant check.

GoodSearch has a toolbar you can download from the homepage so that you can search right from the top of your browser.

Please help us spread the word about this effortless way to raise money for your school's matching fund or the Haas Foundation.

Meet Our Volunteers - Part I
Danae Moore - Storybook Project Manager

Danae Danae graduated from George Fox University last April with a degree in business administration. She got married a month later, and she and her husband moved to Bremerton from Oregon.

Danae likes the level of responsibility that she has had while volunteering for the Foundation, and also "likes working with such an appreciative team". Her main job this winter has been to spearhead the creation of the first Haas Foundation book of stories: inspirational stories of students who’ve been helped through the Haas School Fund.

Danae is a weight-lifter and tennis player. One of seven siblings, she loves spending time with her family. She and her husband also enjoy visiting the Oregon Coast and making homemade pizza.
