Our annual letters to principals and checks to school coordinators were mailed Friday August 29, 2008. We had 690 schools submitted their year end report on time. (reminder those schools that did not submit are eligible for $100 matching grant once your Haas report is submitted).

We are excited about working with you to support students for whom a little financial support will make a big difference in keeping students engaged in school. We encourage you to use the lavender section (knowledge bank) in your self-service portal with your login and password protected extranet site. As we celebrate our 45th year of service statewide, please help by creating awareness about the immediate needs of students.

Experience tells us during tough economic times the students needs will increase. Working together we can support more students. As a reminder, in addition to the August grant schools are eligible for a matching grant for up to one half of their August grant. (note: this is limited to the first $70,000 in requests. We suggest to submit your matching request early, as we anticipate running out as early as April.) Thanks to your leadership and help, this past school year we supported 15,423 students! We look forward to another great year.

 Immediate Answers to your Questions

This past school year we updated our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) page to the self-- service portal extranet (password secured) section of our website. FAQ's will provide answers to questions about administering the grant and recording information on the year-end report. This will allow you to get information immediately. If you have questions that are not included in the FAQs, please e-mail them the Haas support team at (staff@haasfoundation.org) so they can be added to the list.

The top three biggest mis-conceptions are:
  1. School coordinators are allowed to spend up to $300 on one student, as long as the school has the funding in their account, without advance permission from Haas Foundation. (this changed two school years ago)
  2. We had almost 2 dozen schools deficit spend this year. Our question is how is this possible? A reminder note has gone out with all checks. Schools who spent more than $100 in the hole, may have 1/2 of their grant held back, until this is corrected.
  3. The Haas office frequently gets requests to update school contact information. This is a school responsibility. Please log in to your password secured self service portal and complete any changes yourself.

Stay tuned...it is our hope by January that we will be updating our sign in process which is hippa compliant and will allow school coordinators to retrieve passwords without calling the Haas Foundation office.

 Coordinator Training Re-vamped
Check the Bulletin Board on the self-service site for dates and topics

Save Time Haas Foundation is going to be offering webinars and go to my meetings all virtual (using the internet and phone). Stay tuned for the schedule of topics and dates. In the meantime, if you need support please remember that our Haas support team may be of service T-W- Th from 10 am to 4 pm. 206 352-1199.
For new returning coordinators: It is a good idea to review the PowerPoint tutorial online every year in order to become familiar with the changes that have been made over the summer. A link to the tutorial is located in the lavender Information section of the Self-service portal/extranet site. Please take a couple of minutes to review the tutorial as you begin this school year.

 2007-08 Haas Foundation Survey results
helping each of us understand the impact of our efforts...

Thank you to the 673 schools (690 schools completed their year-end report) took the time to participate in our first ever impact survey. Please click on the link below to see the results. We encourage you to reflect and ponder your responses. Share the results with your colleagues and leaders in the community. It is a fabulous reminder for each of us...that "perception is reality." The students needs are real and your ability to seemlessly support the student with no red tape is vital to the student staying engaged in school.

Top 10

Click on the link below regarding the top 10 schools using the Haas Foundation resources.

Remember your school can add as much funding into your schools Haas Foundation account as possible. Consider involving seniors or students who need a project for community service or who just want to help their fellow student.

2008 Survey & Top Ten Schools

 Who are "Needy" Students?
No longer limited to free and reduced lunch eligibility

Boy student The Haas School Fund is available to help all needy students whether or not they are from a low income family or are on the free/reduced lunch program. The following is the definition of "needy" students:

Students are considered needy if they have an established need that must be resolved in order to realize their full potential in school, but their family is unable or unwilling to meet the cost of the need. Need is no longer tied to only free and reduced lunch students. A student may be from a wealthy family who is no longer involved with the student. We expect our school partners to identify if the student is needy based on the above definition. This was changed in 2005 during the creation of the foundations strategic planning process.
